Punjab University to consider both Class 12 and CET
Panjab University has decided to give weightage to the marks obtained by students in Class XII. However, CET (Common entrance test) will also be given weightage for admissions to the courses offered by the university.
The University has decided that 25 per cent weightage will be provided to the qualifying exams and 75 per cent for the CET Entrance exam for admission to various courses except BA LLB (Hons) courses.
CET is conducted for admission to M B B S Courses at Govt Medical College, Chandigarh; B D S courses at Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, B A M S courses at Shri Dhantwantry Ayurvedic College, Chandigarh, B H M S courses at Homeopathic Medical College, B Pharma courses at University institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, B A LLB (Hons) courses at University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana and B Sc courses (H) in Anthropology, Bio Chemistry, Bio physics, Bio Technology, Botany, Computer Science, Chemistry, Geology Mathematics, Mathematics and Computing, Microbiology, Physics and Zoology at the Teaching Departments at the University Campus.
Physics lecturer Prof S C Gupta, welcomed the decision and said “With the eligibility for admission to various courses being just the entrance exam, most students were neglecting the school exams.This move will arrest that trend. The meritorious students would get the benefits of the scheme.”
