Which Business School Ranking to trust ?
Various business magazines come out with surveys highlighting the top management institutions in the country. Some schools are always there at the top. The big three i.e. the Indian institutes of management (IIMs) at Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta, are always at the top. This is primarily because of their excellent pedagogy, faculty and infrastructure
India’s Best B schools 2007’: This phrase was seen on the covers of several magazines during the months of September and October. This was the time to catch the attention of common admission test (CAT) aspirants and recruiters.
With the scramble for CAT over in November, and the rush for the common entrance test (CET) to start in February, the question arises as to what kind of an impact do these rankings really have?
But beyond the big three, most rankings strike a discordant note. This year, in one ranking, Pune’s Symbiosis Institute of Business Management is ranked four, while it does not even feature amongst the top 20 in another ranking.
Likewise, ICFAI Hyderabad, which is ranked nine in one ranking, fails to find a mention amongst the top 30 in another magazine.
Says Dr. N.M.Kondap, vice-chancellor, NMIMS University, “These surveys are conducted using different metrics and parameters. There also occurs some amount of discrepancy during the assessment of the survey, which is then reflected in the results.”
All India Management Association (AIMA), which is the apex body for professional management in the country, is seeking help from business schools, to standardise the entire ranking process by defining parameters on which these rankings should be based. >. Read Complete story
