Retail Management Courses from IGNOU soon

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) , which is already running a large number of professional courses across the country, is also making its foray into the retail management education. In this regard, the IGNOU has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Retail Association of India to impart a one-year diploma course in the Retail management to the students.

As per the agreement, a total of 125 students will get enrollment in notified Retail management institutes in Madhya Pradesh from March this year. Indore which has emerged as the hot spot of retail business in Madhya Pradesh as well as the central India, has been chosen as a major centre of Retail management education. The students to be enrolled for the retail management education, will also be given stipend during their period of study.

K S Tiwari, regional director, IGNOU, Madhya Pradesh informed that keeping in view the vast scope of jobs in retail sectors of the country, the IGNOU has decided to start retail management education in the country. As per an estimate, about 20 lakh jobs will be required in the retail sector of the country in the next 15 years.

Realizing the immense potential of jobs in this sector, the university has tied up with the Retail Association of India; Tiwari said adding that the IGNOU in this regard had also made a tie-up with 51 companies across the country including Tata, Birla and Mafatfal. Students pursuing retail management education through the IGNOU, after completion of their courses will be absorbed by these companies.

The IGNOU has recently also tied up for the first time with the Dental Council of India, through which it will offer PG certificate programmes to students in selected dental colleges of the country. As against 267 dental colleges in the country, Madhya Pradesh has 11 dental colleges, wherein four dental colleges each are being run in Indore and Bhopal respectively.

As per the MoU signed with the DCI, the IGNOU will open two centers in Indore one at Modern Dental college and the other at Government Dental college to start PG certificate courses in Endo-dentics and oral implant logy respectively. Tiwari said that the an MOU in this regard with the DCI will help students to get higher degrees in dental science which was not possible earlier because of scarcity of PG courses in the dental colleges.

IGNOU has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tata International, Dewas wherein as many as 150 students with certain qualifications will be imparted training of shoe making in the factory of Tata International in Dewas every six months. After completion of training, the students will be absorbed by the company itself.

Tiwari informed that the Indira Gandhi Open University, in an attempt to shape the career of those who left their studies for some reasons and are leading a wayward life, has recently tied up with the Hero Honda company to impart training of motorcycle repairs to them. In this regard, the university administration has set up 14 centres across the country including one at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. Every month, 20 children will be imparted two months training of motorcycle repair at these centers and after completion of training, these children will be absorbed by the Hero Honda company itself.
