3.2 lakh students sit for 6600 IIT seats
Over Three lakh students will be taking the IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) today (Sunday), which is the first big competitive exam after the announcement of 27 per cent quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in premier higher education institutes.
There are a total of 6,600 seats. Out of proposed 8 new IITs, at least three are expected to be operational this year, which will add 2,000 more seats.
The test is held in 600 centres across the country, including 117 centres in Delhi zone.There has been no change in the question pattern this time, Officials said.
The IIT JEE last year decided to change the pattern, making provision for two papers in place of three earlier. Each paper consist of questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The questions are of objective type.
The format of the examination remains the same as before. It comprises two papers of 200 marks each.

Last year about 2.5 lakh students appe-ared for the IIT-JEE, while this year there’s a 40 per cent increase in the ranks of IIT aspirants.
