Your Success Chances in CAT !

CAT has been rated as the most difficult MBA entrance test in the world by the Economist Intelligence Survey .

Also, if the numbers are any indication, more and more aspirants are lining up for a career in the managerial ranks instead of sweating it out on the shop floor.

Around 230,000 candidates are scheduled to take the Common Admission Test (CAT)one of the most competitive exams in the world — next month.

This translates into a 21 per cent increase in the number of CAT aspirants over last year, when the total number of candidates stood at around 190,000. In contrast, the number of aspirants for the CAT exam a decade back was only 40,000.

The increasing numbers are indicative of the importance of CAT as the premier management entrance exam as well as the growing economy, which has seen an explosion in the creation of managerial jobs.

The country’s seven Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) use only CAT scores to shortlist candidates.

The IIM’s annual intake is 1,600 students, including IIM- Shillong, which starts operations from academic year 2008.

In effect, the ratio of aspirants to the number of IIM seats available is 1:125. If one were to take the total number of 3,400 management degree seats available across schools (99, not including the IIMs) that use CAT scores to select candidates, the ratio stands at 1:59.

CAT is as competitive as the IIT engineering qualifying test, the Joint Entrance Examination, which saw as many as 200,000 candidates appear for just 4,193 seats spread across the seven IITs in 2007.

The numbers also hide the growing gap between the demand and supply of seats in the top management institutes across the country.

The top 10 B-schools accepting CAT scores, barring the IIMs, have a capacity of only around 2000 seats.

First Dedicated College for Aero Industry in India

Sreenidhi Institute of Science & Technology and Vaughn College of Aeronautics & Technology, New York, Join Hands to establish the First Dedicated College for Aero Industry in India

Hyderabad based Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (SNSIT), the first institution to be accredited by AICTE in JNTU system, and the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology (V-CAT), an accredited institution, established 75 years ago in New York, USA have entered into an MoU to offer 4 year B.S. Degree programmes in Electronics Engineering Technology (Avionics), Airline and Airport Management for the first time in India. This is first of its kind in Technical Education system of India which has approval from AICTE for Technical Education for collaborating with a foreign Institution. The new institute is located in Sreenidhi campus in Hyderabad of Andhra Pradesh.

This new international collaboration between Vaughn College and SNSIT will allow Indian students to enroll in Vaughn's degree programs and study at Sreenidhi. Indian students will also have the option to complete their degree at Vaughn's main campus in New York after partly completing the course in India. For B.S. Course in Electronics Engineering Technology (Avionics), admissions are open to students who are qualified in 10+2 or equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects. Students should have qualified in AIEEE examination (or) should have scored at least 60% marks in English and Mathematics (or) should qualify in a proficiency test conducted by Vaughn College, USA.

For B.S. Courses in Airline Management or Airport Management, the candidates who qualified in 10+2 exam with any optional are eligible. They should have scored 60% marks in English (or) should qualify in a proficiency test conducted by Vaughn College, USA.

The idea of setting up the SNIST VAUGHN Institute of Aeronautics and Technology had originated due to the initiative taken by Vaughn College, USA. Vaughn College visited a number of Institutions in India and finally chose Sreenidhi. Applications were submitted to All India Council for Technical Education, Govt. of India by Sreenidhi and also by Vaughn College. After careful scrutiny, AICTE sent a high power committee under chairmanship of Prof. Chopra, former Director of IIT, Kharagpur was constituted to visit the college.

Based on the recommendations of the high power committee AICTE had given approval for running the following programmes:

1. B.S. Course in Electronics Engineering & Technology (Avionics)

2. B.S. Course in Airline Management and

3. B.S. Course in Airport Management

The Forum for Indo-US collaboration for Engineering Education, formed by Professors, Deans and Vice-Provosts of US Universities, sponsored by the American Society for Engineering Education, opined that the Sreenidhi-Vaughn model of offering the above BS Courses is career oriented and will set out to become an example of successful international academic collaboration.

Speaking about the partnership with SNIST and locating the first College of Aeronautics & Technology in Hyderabad, Dr. John Fitzpatrick, President of Vaughn College, said “Recent years have seen more and more aerospace technology integrated into traditional electronics. The ideal student for avionics training should possess highly analytical problem solving abilities and have an interest in electronics. Flight control, communication, navigation, weather and collision avoidance systems are the primary areas of study for Electronics Engineering & Technology students. Our focus is to ensure our courses are technically oriented throughout and respond to industry requirements.”

B.S. Degree Course in Airline Management comprises of subjects such as introduction to Aeronautics, introduction to Management, Airline operations, Economics, Corporate Accounting, Public Speaking, Airline Management, Airline Economics and finance, Management of Aviation Environmental issues, Aviation Safety, Air Transport regulations, Air traffic control, Air transportation and Cargo management, Aviation Weather, International Trade and Finance, etc.

“B.S. Degree of Airport Management consists of many of the subjects related to Airline Management besides courses such as Airport Planning and Administration, Industry and Labour relations, Airport operations and management, etc. These courses are extremely useful for the growing airline industry of India and elsewhere,” Mr. Mahi, Secretary and Correspondent, SNSIT, said, "We are excited as much as our first batch of students and we look forward to working with this enthusiastic group of students and help them achieve success in their chosen careers."

The objective of the institute is to train Electronic Engineering Graduates with specialization in Avionics, which is the heart of an Aircraft. Basics of Electronics and Communication are taught and elective subjects are offered in this important area. Airline industry is currently growing at a rate of more than 20% in India, which is perhaps a record in the history of Aviation industry. The number of airlines is increasing enormously and at the same time, airports are being built in the nook and corner of the country. Effectively trained managerial personnel are required and hence, the B.S. courses in Airline management and Airport management are offered.

The Institute offers Web-based instruction through Audio Visual aids in each classroom, Power Point Presentations & Transparency banks to ease student understanding in addition to Lecture schedules, course files and laboratory manuals for effective instructions.

The new campus at Ghatkesar is fully equipped with state of the art IT Infrastructure with Wifi facility including Campus-wide networking with wireless connectivity. Some of the other facilities offered at the Institute are Central Computer Center and information Center with up to the minute software and classrooms with internet connectivity & LCD Projectors.
